What is (was) the CORGI Gas register?
CORGI has been replaced as the adminstrator for the gas safety register by Capita – (see What is the Gas Safe Register?)
CORGI was the gas safety watchdog set up in 1970 to help reduce the number of fatalities caused by faulty gas appliances. It introduced a scheme for registration of qualified gas installers and it was a legal requirement for anyone who installed or serviced gas appliances to be CORGI registered.
Now engineers must be registered with the Gas Safe Register run by Capita.
Always ask for proof of CORGI or Capita registration, depending on when the work was carried out – See Gas Safe Register for further information.
Registered companies will display their details openly on websites and other material, if you cannot see find it; assume the business is not registered.
